The design on these bookends is the calligraphic hebrew of Julie Staller-Pentelnik. Her challenge was to create a design using every letter in the Hebrew alphabet. The result: these bookends and another work of art, the jumbled aleph bet menorah. Notice also the use of two letters that form the only word in the bookends, chai, for life. The design has been sandblasted into a light gray mirror and then the mirror is wrapped in copper and soldered together with additional stained glass to form the base and bookends.
